High Tea in the Holidays

Alexander is in Invercargill for the rest of the holidays so we were in for some girls only entertainment.

We dressed up in our fancy clothes, put on our vintage hats and went to high tea at Kirkcaldies.

We took cousin Grace with us. Jessi was all prepared for a Fancy Nancy experience … unfortunately the tea cups didn’t quite measure up to her fancy standards! Fair enough too … I prefer the flowery fine china sort myself. Even so they were good for a photo or two and the girls were amused at the lipstick prints they left on the side after taking a sip.

They actually drank iced chocolate out of pretty pink cups … which seemed a bit more appetizing than the pretend tea they started with. They were also given the option of hot chocolate or a fluffy, while I was offered my choice of tea or coffee. I started with a good strong coffee which came with a pot of hot water as well and then I had a pot of green tea infused with lime … all very nice.

The afternoon tea was all very nice too … and the girls were very good about starting with the savories and sandwiches before moving on to the sweet stuff at the top … on thinking about that … maybe it was because they couldn’t actually see what was on the top tier while they were sitting on their seats! I was surprised at how much they ate actually and it was pretty much only my share of the food which we ended up taking away in a doggie bag.

All in all it was a nice experience for a holiday treat and it was great that they catered specially for the children with the food, drinks and price all child friendly.

We stopped at the toy department after we’d finished and it was noted that we were all looking rather posh, Grace answered in her most perfectly posh English voice “Yes, we’ve just been upstairs at High Tea” … she sounded so much older than her 5 years!
